Get your ghost traps and Proton Packs ready because there is finally information about the upcoming Ghostbusters movie.
Until now, we all referred to the new installment as Ghostbusters 2020, but the official name is Ghostbusters: Afterlife. Today, Sony Pictures released plot details and a poster for the movie while Vanity Fair published first-look photos and additional information about the plot. Afterlife will take place in the same world as the first two Ghostbusters films, but long after the paranormal, apocalyptic event that nearly destroyed New York City in 1984 (officially dubbed the “Manhattan Crossrip”). The story follows a single mother (Carrie Coon) and her two children (Finn Wolfhard and Mckenna Grace) as they move to a small town, where they begin to experience hauntings and discover their family’s connections to the Manhattan Crossrip (even uncovering a certain ghost-hunting vehicle in their barn).
Paul Rudd also stars in the movie as the kids’ summer school teacher, Mr. Grooberson, who is a little bit obsessed with the Crossrip. One of the first-look images from Vanity Fair even shows Rudd holding a ghost trap with a surprised look on his face. According to Vanity Fair, a majority of the original cast is also set to return for this movie, with the exception of Rick Moranis and the late Harold Ramis.
Ghostbusters: Afterlife is directed by Jason Reitman and will debut in theaters on July 10. Check out all of the first-look content here, and stay tuned for the movie’s first official trailer, which is set to drop on Monday.
