Apple has been trying to break into streaming for years, and the tech giant finally plans to launch its new streaming television service in the first half of next year, according to a report from The Information.
The TV subscription service will launch in more than 100 countries following the initial release in the U.S. The new SVOD platform will include Apple’s original programs free to Apple device owners and will also allow users to sign up for third-party TV network subscriptions.
Apple’s lineup currently includes a drama starring Reese Witherspoon, Jennifer Aniston, and Steve Carell; new shows from Oprah Winfrey; kids’ shows from the creators of Sesame Street; a dystopian show called See; a reboot of the science fiction show Amazing Stories; an adaptation of Isaac Asimov’s science fiction novel Foundation; a space drama from Battlestar Galactica creator Ronald D. Moore; a psychological thriller series from M. Night Shyamalan; and more to come. There were also previous reports about plans for a documentary about an elephant queen and an animated film set in Ireland.
