News broke yesterday that Vince Gilligan is working on a Breaking Bad movie about the escape of a kidnapped man and his quest for freedom. At the time, it was unclear who that man was, or if any of the original cast was returning for the film. (And no, it won’t be about Walt Jr. and what he eats for breakfast everyday.)
According to Slash Film, the escapee is the one and only Jesse Pinkman, and the movie will act as a sequel following his escape from Albuquerque after the series finale.
In the final season of Breaking Bad, Pinkman (played by Aaron Paul) was abducted by a group of neo-Nazis who chained him up and forced him to cook Heisenberg’s blue meth recipe. The show ended with Walter White (Bryan Cranston) assassinating the Nazi squad while Pinkman escaped in a getaway car like a bat out of hell after strangling his main tormenter.
Since the end of Breaking Bad in 2013, Aaron Paul played various roles here and there, including Eddie Lane on The Path and various animated characters on BoJack Horseman. He joined the cast for the third season of Westworld on HBO, and is currently filming the TV series Are You Sleeping for Apple’s worldwide video unit.
There’s still no official title for the Breaking Bad film, although it’s rumored to have a working title of Greenbriar. There is also no word on whether the movie will be in theaters or made for TV.
