The CW is switching up its Charmed reboot for season two. After announcing in January that the wonderfully witchy show was coming back for round two, the network decided the series needed some new direction. Showrunner Carter Covington is out, and husband-and-wife duo Liz Kruger and Craig Shapiro are replacing him, Deadline reports. Unsurprisingly, the team is reportedly changing the series’ creative direction, though details on just how that will happen are still under wraps.
Developed by Jennie Snyder Urman, Jessica O’Toole, and Amy Rardin, the Charmed reboot follows the lives of sisters Macy (Madeleine Mantock), Mel (Melonie Diaz), and Maggie (Sarah Jeffery). After their mother dies, the three sisters learn that they’re The Charmed Ones. Similar to the original series, the sisters possess a Power of Three that makes them the most powerful witches. While they’re strongest together (duh), each sister uses her own unique magical power to kick a little supernatural demon butt in their fictional college town of Hilltowne, Michigan.
Before joining the Charmed coven, Kruger and Shapiro co-created the CBS series Salvation, alongside Matt Wheeler, and also served as co-showrunners. They also had ties to Extant, starring Halle Berry, serving as executive producers and co-showrunners. Previous credits included creating and executive producing USA Network’s Necessary Roughness and executive producing Bravo’s Girlfriends’ Guide to Divorce.
