It’s high noon — walk 10 paces and draw…your Magic cards

Magic: The Gathering (MTG) players who are fans of a good Western are about to score big. The newest set —  Outlaws of Thunder Junction — brings the Wild West to the world of Magic. With favorite characters from across the planes, new mechanics, incredible art, and more, this set has a little something for everyone. Get your spurs on for its release on April 19!

Now that Omenpaths are open, travelers without a spark are suddenly finding themselves able to visit planes they could previously only dream of. Wizards of the Coast is taking full advantage of this development, with favorite villains from across the MTG Multiverse coming together to claim the Fomori Vault in Thunder Junction.

Each beloved MTG villain is playing their part in this heist-ready gang. The group is led by the infamous Oko, joined by his son Kellan. Rakdos, the demon guildmaster from Ravnica, is providing the brute strength. Fan favorite Tinybones from Dominaria; Vraska, the menacing gorgon from Ravnica; and new character Annie Flash round out the crew.

There’s more than new story content in this set, with an impressive pile of fresh mechanics ready to keep players on their toes. What villain set is complete without Crime? A Crime is any spell (or activated or triggered ability) that targets an opponent, their permanents, their spells, or cards in their graveyard, and there are plenty of cards that will react to players committing them.

Plot and Spree bring villainous scheming and the option to go big. Plot allows you to set up truly explosive turns by paying a cost to exile a card and then play it later without paying its Mana cost, and Spree is a fresh take on Modal cards.

Finally, for those who enjoy Vehicles but wish they did more than sit around when they aren’t Crewed, the new Mounts with their Saddle mechanic are perfect for you! These Creatures are still usable when not Saddled, but add even more to the game if you can find them riders.

No set is complete without some incredible art treatments and fun collector cards. The set’s iconic villains are getting Wanted Poster treatments to match their infamy. Big Score cards have their own set symbol, and feature powerful cards (dug up from the vault) that players will want to use. The Breaking News bonus sheet includes cards that are Crimes, also with their own set symbol. Finally, Outlaws of Thunder Junction has Special Guests cards, a card type first introduced in Lost Caverns of Ixalan.

These collectible art treatments can be found in Play and Collector Boosters, with unique treatments like textured foil only found in Collector Boosters.

MTG’s most popular format won’t be left behind either, with four new preconstructed Commander decks as well as a fresh mechanic to keep the game interesting.

The “Most Wanted” deck is focused on the new Outlaw mechanic, grouping together the popular card types of Assassins, Mercenaries, Pirates, Rogues, and Warlocks. “Quick Draw” is bringing the classic spell-slinging of Blue and Red with Commander Stella Lee rewarding players for casting their second spell each turn.

The “Desert Bloom” deck is headed by Yuma, who becomes less Mana expensive the more lands you have in your graveyard. Finally, the “Grand Larceny” deck is ready to guarantee a bit of unpredictability as it steals and reduces the cost of other players’ cards.

The Bounties mechanic is also new to Commander, providing a fresh experience to fans of Magic multiplayer. Players use one shared Bounty deck, with the top card revealed, giving the player whose turn it is the chance to claim the Bounty. Each of the new precons comes with three Bounty cards, for 12 total.

Outlaws of Thunder Junction is riding up to players everywhere this April 19. The set will include Play Boosters, Collector Boosters, and Commander decks, so every player and collector can rustle up something they’ll love!
