The recent college admissions scandal was a wild enough story that it was only a matter of time before someone turned it into a TV show. Annapurna Television is capitalizing on the situation with a limited series based on Accepted, an upcoming book from Wall Street Journal reporters Melissa Korn and Jennifer Levitz about what went down in all the pandemonium.
The book details the scandal, in which parents bribed and influenced universities to accept their kids under false pretenses, including having kids admitted as student-athletes, even when the kids didn’t play any sports. Fifty people were indicted in the scheme, including parents, college officials, and athletic coaches.
Among those indicted were actresses Lori Loughlin and Felicity Huffman, which made the case all the more shocking. Loughlin and husband Mossimo Giannuli allegedly paid $500,000 in bribes to help their daughters get into USC, and Huffman allegedly paid $15,000 for someone else to take the SAT in place of her oldest daughter and disguised the pay-off as a charitable contribution.
D.V. DeVincentis (The People v. O.J. Simpson, High Fidelity) will adapt the book into a limited series. No outlet is attached yet.
