The Walt Disney Co. filed a patent application for a “sword device with retractable, internally illuminated blade.” I don’t know about you, but that sounds like a lightsaber to me.

The technology in the application is used to build a lightsaber hilt that extends with the push of a button, according to WDW News Today. The lightsaber will light up with LEDs from the inside, similar to the way they appear in the Star Wars movies. There will also be built-in sound effects and a retractable blade. The source also received blueprint designs:

This new lightsaber will potentially be the most realistic one on the market, and will likely be sold as a collector’s item with a premium price rather than a toy for kids, such as the cheaper ones currently sold in the Disney theme parks.

Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge, the newest edition to the Disney theme parks, is set to open next year. Perhaps these new items will be available to purchase at Disneyland Park in Anaheim and Disney’s Hollywood Studios in Florida.
