Paging Captain Jack Sparrow!

Disney is currently in discussions to reboot the popular Pirates of the Caribbean franchise with Deadpool writing team Rhett Reese and Paul Wernick.

Jerry Bruckheimer will continue to produce these new films, however, it’s too early to know if any other members of the original pirate crew, including Jack Sparrow himself (Johnny Depp) will return.

The first five films grossed more than $4.5 billion over 14 years, while 2017’s Dead Men Tell No Tales, where Jack Sparrow battled ghost sailors led by Javier Bardem’s Captain Salazar, grossed only $172 million in comparison to the previous films that grossed $320 million each.

Reese and Wernick are reportedly in “early talks” to pen the script should Disney give the film the green light to produce.

While the term “reboot” has been used to categorize this potential new Pirates of the Caribbean film, it remains undetermined whether the Deadpool writers will truly reboot the franchise and start from scratch with an original story or continue where 2017’s film left off.
