Final Fantasy XIV Shadowbringers

Square Enix gave players a sneak peek of Final Fantasy XIV: Shadowbringers during Square Enix E3 Live 2019, the company’s live presentation at the Electronic Entertainment Expo (E3).

The gunbreaker (pictured above) is the first new job coming in the Shadowbringers expansion. It’s a gun blade-wielding fighter who occupies the tank role. Players who own the collector’s edition can use Squall’s gun blade, Revolver, from Final Fantasy VIII.

Another new job is the Dancer, a class that attacks by throwing weapons, which can damage enemies and add beneficial effects to the party.

The game also has new playable races, including the Viera, with lithe forms and long, rabbit-like ears, and the Hrothgar — lion-like warriors with unique and customizable features specific to their race.

The pixies and their mighty regent, Titania, are coming to the game, as well as the mysterious “Sin-eater” Innocence and the Dwarves, a beast tribe with helmets and beards.

Shadowbringers introduces a new raid series, titled, “YoRHa: Dark Apocalypse,” featuring special guest creators Yosuke Saito (Square Enix producer) and Yoko Taro (game designer).

Tetsuya Nomura (director of Kingdom Hearts) also designed a new character named Gaia.

There will be an all-new system, called the NPC Trust system, that allows players to tackle Shadowbringers’ instanced dungeons with the company of familiar NPCs.

Players can explore new areas, including Il Mheg, a lush vale; Rak’tika Greatwood, a sprawling forest of ancient sentinels; and the Lakeland. There will also be new player cities, including the Crystarium, which acts as a player hub, and Eulmore, an affluent city ruled by the elite.

The official Final Fantasy XIV: Shadowbringers benchmark software is available for download now. It features footage from the expansion and includes a character creator so players can build their Viera and Hrothgar characters right now, which they can carry into the game on July 2. Players who preorder the game from the Square Enix store will gain early access on June 28, in addition to instant access to some bonuses, including the experience-boosting aethertye earring.
