Gen Con 2026 is all about the gaming, but this year, Free League didn’t come to play. At its annual showcase, the publisher unveiled new launches and expansions for several of its fan-favorite RPGs, as well as a brand-new way to play them.
The road goes ever on and on for The One Ring. Two new expansions are joining the award-winning The Lord of the Rings-inspired tabletop series this fall: The White Tower and the Hall of Gold, a major campaign exploring Gondor and Rohan, and Creatures Strange and Foul, a bestiary filled with ancient evils from the Third Age. You can also score a revised version of the Core Rules, complete with new cover art and updated gameplay.
All three will launch on BackerKit this September. Fans can grab the new expansions as standard editions or with exclusive faux-leather covers, gilded with silver and gold foil. If your party prefers The Lord of the Rings Roleplaying, don’t worry — both expansions will also be available for the 5E format under the titles Realms of the South and Of Orcs and Evil Things, respectively. Fans can reserve their pledge now for $1 to receive a limited-edition The One Ring dice bag.
Middle-earth isn’t the only world hitting the web. Free League is also launching its very own digital platform, Free League Unbound. Developed by the creators of D&D Beyond, the site gives players access to official game content, searchable rules, and digital tools, all in one place and across all their devices. More interactive features are already in the works for the months ahead, including character creation and progression tools.
The platform is currently in Early Access and includes a digital reader and game compendia for four fan-favorite RPGs: The One Ring, Alien: The Roleplaying Game Evolved Edition, Coriolis: The Great Dark, and Invincible Superhero Roleplaying. Fans can log on, test the programs, and even share feedback to help shape the website into the ultimate hub for Free League gamers.
Last but certainly not least, fans can finally get their hands on Free League’s highly anticipated Invincible tabletop RPG. Available now online and in hobby stores worldwide, the launch features everything fans need to kickstart their superhero adventure, including the Core Rulebook, an all-in-one starter kit, a themed GM screen, a 10-piece dice set, and a Power Card reference deck. If it flies off the shelves, never fear — you can also download the game digitally through DriveThruRPG and start playing now.
Meanwhile, Gen Con attendees can stop by Free League’s booth (No. 2449) to score a brand-new two-hour campaign, Superhero Season. In this caped crusade, the heroes have a massive bounty on their heads, and it’s up to the players to help save the day. Fans can pick up a printed copy of the expansion at the convention all weekend long until July 2.
