Gamers: Get ready! A new, next-generation virtual reality (VR) headset is on the way from HP. The PC hardware manufacturer is developing the headset in collaboration with Valve and Microsoft.
Online, both Valve and HP describe the headset as “the new standard in VR.” The Reverb G2 VR HMD (head-mounted display) promises to provide “an immersive, comfortable, and compatible VR experience,” according to the companies’ websites.
The headset is a follow-up to HP’s Reverb VR headset, designed for the Windows Mixed Reality line of VR devices and apps. IGN speculates that the Reverb G2 will likely combine the noticeably high-definition display of the first-generation device (a resolution of 2160 x 2160 pixels per eye) with Valve’s expertise gained from its own VR device: the Valve Index.
The Reverb G2 will utilize Steam VR, as well (the device’s announcement is already displayed on the Steam store).
A release date has yet to be announced, but prospective users can sign up for a notification from HP here.
