Jason Momoa is negotiating a deal to star in Legendary’s reboot of the 1980s sci-fi film Dune.
If the Aquaman star joins the cast, he would portray sword master Duncan Idaho alongside Timothée Chalamet, Javier Bardem, Josh Brolin, Zendaya, Rebecca Ferguson, Stellan Skarsgard, Dave Bautista, and Oscar Isaac.
Director Denis Villeneuve (Arrival, Blade Runner 2049) is directing and co-writing the script with Eric Roth and Jon Spaihts.
Villenueve will also produce the movie with Mary Parent and Cale Boyter. Meanwhile, Brian Herbert, Byron Merritt, Thomas Tull, and Kim Herbert will executive produce the project.
In the futuristic film, the family of Paul Atreides (Chalamet) takes over the desert planet Arrakis. Noble families are competing over jurisdiction of the planet because it’s the only one home to a highly valuable resource. Atreides leads a rebellion so his family can rule again.
Momoa is continuing with the sci-fi genre, as he is currently filming the Apple streaming service series See, written by Steven Knight (Peaky Blinders) and directed by Francis Lawrence (The Hunger Games: Catching Fire and Mockingjay Parts 1 & 2). In the futuristic, 10-episode series, the actor will portray warrior and leader Baba Voss, Deadline reports.
