Goodbye Penny from The Big Bang Theory, hello Harley Quinn! Kaley Cuoco will play Harley Quinn in an animated series that she is also executive producing for the DC Universe streaming service. The actress made the announcement last night in a promotional video for New York Comic Con featuring her character.
Cuoco starred in CBS’ The Big Bang Theory for 12 seasons, and this will be her first role after the show ends for good in May. “This has been the edgiest, darkest thing I think I’ve ever done in my career,” Cuoco told USA Today. “I have cussed and screamed more than I think I ever have, and it has been a fricking blast. It’s very freeing.”
In the new DC Universe show, titled Harley Quinn, Cuoco’s character starts off dating the Joker, but then they break up. “She decides, screw Joker, I’m going to take over Gotham City by myself,” Cuoco said. “And that’s kind of how this series starts, how you don’t need a man to help you ruin the city. You can ruin it all by yourself.”
The Harley Quinn cast also includes Chris Meloni, Jason Alexander, Wanda Sykes, Lake Bell, Alan Tudyk, Ron Funches , JB Smoove, Giancarlo Esposito, Jim Rash, Diedrich Bader, Tony Hale, and Natalie Morales. The show is due out next year.
