PlayPop Books

Attention parents, grandparents, and cool aunts (that’s me!) and uncles: Get ready to introduce the kids in your life to your favorite nostalgic fandoms.

Insight Editions is introducing PlayPop, a new series of pop culture-inspired board books that prove there’s no age too young for kids to bond with you over classic characters, such E.T. and the Ghostbusters. PlayPop books feature adorable illustrations and iconic pop culture references. The books also help kids develop essential skills and concepts, including their first words, counting, colors, and shapes.

Six PlayPop books will be released this year, with two titles available now: Ghostbusters: 1 to 10 Slimer’s Loose Again and E.T. the Extra-Terrestrial: E.T.’s First Words. Upcoming PlayPop summer releases include books inspired by Back to the Future and Jim Henson’s Labyrinth, and fall releases include board books based on The Dark Crystal, as well as another Ghostbusters title.

Ghostbusters: 1 to 10 Slimer’s Loose Again is a die-cut counting book that follows Slimer, everyone’s favorite ghost from the classic Ghostbusters movies, as he explores the city and takes little Ghostbusters on an adventure from one to 10. The die-cut page tabs are easy for infants to turn and fun to touch, and counting helps young learners practice essential pre-math skills.

In E.T. the Extra-Terrestrial: E.T.’s First Words, kids read along as E.T. plays dress-up, phones home, and has more adorable adventures inspired by the movie E.T. the Extra-Terrestrial. The interactive wheel allows kids ages 3 and up to search for the right word to complete the sentence — and even laugh at the wrong ones.

Both books are available now on Amazon and at major retailers and booksellers for $9.99.

Now, I might just be able to teach my 6-month-old niece to respond to the phrase, “Who you gonna call?” with “Ghostbusters!”
