Where would we be without Law and Order in this world? It’s the franchise that never dies, with spin-offs including Special Victims Unit, Criminal Intent, Trial by Jury, LA, and True Crime. NBC now puffs more life into it with the latest spin-off, Law and Order: Hate Crimes, with a first season of 13 episodes set in New York City.

NBC’s co-president of scripted programming, Lisa Katz, called the series “extremely timely,” explaining that the rise in hate crimes in the U.S. is the highest it’s been in over a decade.

Law and Order executive producer Dick Wolf created Hate Crimes with screenwriter Warren Leight. The show does not yet have a premiere date scheduled but the series will be introduced in the upcoming season of Law and Order: SVU. Fingers crossed that Stabler makes a comeback but we won’t hold our breath.
