Lilo and her best extraterrestrial pal Stitch are back for a new live-action feature film at Disney.
The 2002 animated movie from Walt Disney Feature Animation is the latest Disney classic to receive a live-action reboot. Mike Van Waes will pen the new script, and Dan Lin and Jonathan Eirich of Rideback, who are currently working on the live-action Aladdin remake, will produce.
The film followed the story of a young Hawaiian girl named Lilo, who adopts a blue dog alien called Stitch, who was created for evil and destruction, and shows the bonds of ohana that can’t be broken.
While the original film wasn’t a massive box office hit initially in 2002, it spawned several direct-to-video sequels and a TV series.
This new Lilo & Stitch joins the growing list of Disney live-action remakes, including Cinderella, Pete’s Dragon, The Jungle Book, and Beauty and the Beast. Upcoming live-action remakes already in the works include Tim Burton’s Dumbo, Guy Ritchie’s Aladdin, Jon Favreau’s The Lion King, Mulan, and Lady & The Tramp in the works for Disney’s streaming service.
