Following his well-received directorial efforts on The Mandalorian for Disney+, Taika Waititi (Thor: Ragnarok) is heading back to a galaxy far, far away to helm a new Star Wars film.

Rumors pegged the multi-hyphenate (who also voiced The Mandalorian‘s IG-11) to land a Star Wars gig for some time, but Lucasfilm made it official to celebrate Star Wars Day.

Waititi, who recently took home an Academy Award for Best Adapted Screenplay for Jojo Rabbit, will co-write the screenplay for the new Star Wars film with Oscar-nominee Krysty Wilson-Cairns (1917, Last Night in Soho).

Lucasfilm also confirmed recent reports that Emmy-nominated writer Leslye Headland (Russian Doll, Bachelorette) is developing a new Star Wars series for Disney+. Headland will write, executive produce, and serve as showrunner for the in-development series.

The addition of Headland’s project brings the total of episodic Star Wars projects in development to three. A Rogue One prequel, focused on Cassian Andor and starring Diego Luna, and a series focusing on Obi-Wan Kenobi (Ewan McGregor) during the period between the events of Revenge of the Sith and A New Hope were previously ordered.

Release dates for all projects are still being closely guarded.
