Luke Perry

Luke Perry, Riverdale and Beverly Hills, 90210 star, died today following a massive stroke last Wednesday. The actor was 52 years old and remained hospitalized following the stroke.

According to a statement released by Rogers & Cowan on behalf of Perry’s family, Perry was surrounded by family. “The family appreciates the outpouring of support and prayers that have been extended to Luke from around the world, and respectfully request privacy in this time of great mourning. No further details will be released at this time,” the statement reads.

The actor became well-known for his role as Dylan McKay on Beverly Hills, 90210 throughout the ’90s. Currently, Perry starred as Fred Andrews, Archie’s father, on the popular CW show Riverdale.

He also filmed a role in Quentin Tarantino’s upcoming Once Upon a Time in Hollywood. 

Fox announced a six-episode reboot of Beverly Hills, 90210 last week, with many original cast members set to reprise their roles. Perry, however, did not sign on to return.

According to VarietyRiverdale has shut down production following Perry’s death. The network also released an official statement, which reads: “We are deeply saddened to learn today about the passing of Luke Perry. A beloved member of the Riverdale, Warner Bros. and CW family, Luke was everything you would hope he would be: an incredibly caring, consummate professional with a giant heart, and a true friend to all. A father figure and mentor to the show’s young cast, Luke was incredibly generous, and he infused the set with love and kindness. Our thoughts are with Luke’s family during this most difficult time.”
