Wonder Woman writer Allan Heinberg is bringing more female superheroes to life, this time on TV.

ABC gave a production commitment to an untitled hourlong drama—about female characters with superpowers—from Heinberg, Marvel Television, and ABC Studios. While details are scarce, it is believed that the drama will focus on lesser-known Marvel characters.

The female-centric series will be a welcome addition to ABC’s lineup, one that already has a strong appeal to women with series such as Grey’s Anatomy, How To Get Away With Murder, the recently-departed Scandal, and the new The Good Doctor.

Launching a new Marvel series has been a focus for ABC of late. “In terms of Marvel, we have some things that we are in discussions with them right now that we are in development,” ABC president Channing Dungey said last month. “I’m very excited about it.”

In recent years, ABC launched two other Marvel series that saw short runs, including Agent Carter and Inhumans.

While best known for his writing in Wonder Woman, Heinberg has a strong TV series and Marvel resumé, including work for Grey’s AnatomyThe Naked Truth, Party of Five, Sex and the City, Gilmore Girls, The O.C. and Looking. And for Marvel Comics, Heinberg created and wrote Young Avengers and its sequel, Avengers: The Children’s Crusade with co-creator and artist Jim Cheung.
