Marvel's Avengers Captain America

We have to wait until next May for Square Enix‘s Marvel’s Avengers game, but fans can finally get a real idea of what’s to come with some in-game footage. Today, Square Enix released a video of the game’s opening scene — which serves as a prologue and tutorial — in full.

The video clocks in at 18 minutes, expanding on the scene that was teased in the game trailer, which debuted during this year’s Electronic Entertainment Expo (E3).

The scene features Thor, Captain America, Iron Man, Hulk, and Black Widow in action after a mysterious attack interrupts A-Day, a celebration intended to unveil the new Avengers headquarters.

Throughout, the video switches to the perspective of each Avenger, giving fans an idea of their personality and abilities within the game.

The villainous Taskmaster shows up, and Black Widow ultimately triumphs over him. However, the Avengers realize too late that Taskmaster was only a distraction, and they watch as a Helicarrier explodes with Captain America on board.

The scene ends by showing the aftermath of these events, with Cap dead and the heroic team dispersed. In the game, players will need to reassemble these heroes to take down Advanced Idea Mechanics (A.I.M.), the group behind the A-Day attacks.

Check out the full trailer below, and click here to learn more about each character’s specific in-game abilities.

Fans can preorder the game now for potential beta access on PlayStation 4. The game officially debuts for PlayStation 4, Xbox One, PC, and Stadia next year on May 15.
