After three previous blockbuster films in The Matrix trilogy, co-creator Lana Wachowski and stars Keanu Reeves and Carrie-Anne Moss will return to the reality-bending universe with a brand-new film.
Reeves and Moss will be back as Neo and Trinity for the new flick, according to Warner Bros. Pictures. Wachowski is set to write, direct, and produce the new Warner Bros. film.
“Many of the ideas Lilly [Wachowski] and I explored 20 years ago about our reality are even more relevant now,” Wachowski said in a statement. “I’m very happy to have these characters back in my life and grateful for another chance to work with my brilliant friends.”
The three previous films — The Matrix, The Matrix Reloaded, and The Matrix Revolutions — have earned more than $1 billion at the global box office since their releases in 1999 and 2003.
Additionally, select AMC Theatres will hold special screenings beginning on Aug. 30 in honor of the first film’s 20th anniversary,
