We may be a year away from seeing the final chapter of the Skywalker saga, but that doesn’t mean we can’t ponder about the eight new characters J.J. Abrams plans to introduce.
Keri Russell is undoubtedly the biggest addition to the Star Wars universe. Her red hair has many fans speculating that she would be introducing Luke Skywalker’s non-canonical wife Mara Jade, while others believe she’s set to play Rey’s long-lost mother.
Richard E. Grant is another big name on the roster, and Grant looks to continue the tradition of classic British actors joining the Star Wars team, including Alec Guinness, Peter Cushing, Christopher Lee, and Max von Sydow.
Possibly the biggest new character reveal that of Lando Calrissian’s daughter, played by Naomi Ackie. Billy Dee Williams is confirmed to return as Lando, and it’s believed that the father-daughter duo will come to Leia’s rescue at some point during the film.
Lord of the Rings and Lost star Dominic Monaghan is also rumored to be part of Veranada Calrissian’s crew. He’s not necessarily considered a good guy, but it’s expected that he’ll help out the Resistance when it comes time to defend Leia and friends.
Former Doctor Who star Matt Smith also hopped on board in an undisclosed role, though many believe that he’ll portray a young version of Emperor Palpatine, with time travel said to play an important role in his storyline.
