Cryptozoic Entertainment Epic Spell Wars

The latest game from Cryptozoic Entertainment’s Epic Spell Wars series is headed to Gen Con 2019 from Aug. 1-4 with a limited release.

Epic Spell Wars of the Battle Wizards: Annihilageddon is the first deck-building game of the series with the over-the-top, mature humor and art fans love. Two to five players take on the role of a wizard and try to buy magical cards, including spell, wizard, creature, and treasure cards, to defeat their competitors and win the Annilageddon Tournament Champion title.

“Sharp-eyed players will notice that the oversized Wizards in the game are fully compatible with the previously released Epic Spell Wars card games, and the wizards from those games can be used in Annihilageddon too,” lead game designer Matt Hyra said in a statement. “Your wizard becomes unique in the game in a couple of ways. When you start, you choose an Ability tile that grants you a special ability. Then you get to choose a wizard and their familiar, which sits next to your wizard and is a powerful card that only you can buy. The amount of customization is pretty epic!”

Cory Jones created the card game, from Cryptozoic’s Cerberus Engine, for players ages 17 and up. The game, designed by Jones and Hyra, includes art by RS Bixby, 230 game cards, eight oversized wizard cards, eight wizard ability tiles, five-hit point tokens, one R’lyeh standee, one Annihilageddon trophy standee, and one rulebook.

For fans who want to bring serious competition into the game, Cryptozoic will release the Epic Spell Wars of the Battle Wizards: Annihilageddon Deck-Building Game Launch kit to retailers with guidelines for organized play events and tournament prizes. The kit is packed with 12 Abraca-Labrador oversized wizard cards, 12 Hocus Porkus familiar cards, four alternate-art foil Cthulhu cards, a playmat, a poster, and organized play instructions for $20.

Gen Con attendees will get first dibs on the new game when they buy it from Cryptozoic’s booth (No. 503). Those who purchase the new game or any of the Epic Spell Wars titles will receive a Studd Spellslammer & the Juice! promo card set featuring the wizard champion and his sidekick. They can also buy the limited-edition Epic Spell Wars of the Battle Wizards statue for $66.60. The 9-inch polyresin statue also features the duo.

Fans who miss the con can pick up the Epic Spell Wars of the Battle Wizards: Annihilageddon Deck-Building Game when it hits shelves at retailers across the U.S. in September for $40.
