In a year where we all feel like we’re living in a catastrophic video game — Ryan Reynolds actually is (kind of).
In the trailer for the new film Free Guy, Reynolds stars as Guy, a bank teller who learns that he’s really just a background character in a video game. He ultimately attempts to rewrite the story in his own way, wowing some and making enemies of others.
Free Guy looks like a comical escape into a new world and is meant to hit theaters on Dec. 11 — but we know how this year is. Regal Cinemas is reportedly shutting down again and the box office has been, well, not great. Ryan Reynolds may save the day in this film, but we’ll see if this film can save its date.
The movie also stars Jodie Comer, Joe Keery, Lil Rel Howery, Utkarsh Ambudkar, and Taika Waititi.
