Funko has become an undisputable ruler in the realm of pop culture, offering some of the most sought-after collectibles at every major fan convention, hosting massive fan events, and expanding its empire with strategic acquisitions.
Now, as announced during its Sunday Hall H panel at Comic-Con International: San Diego (SDCC), Funko is ready to take on next-gen gaming. Apparently, Funko has been working closely with video game developer 10:10 Games for more than a year. With this new partnership, the companies plan to produce a series of AAA video game titles for major consoles and PC.
At least in the case of 10:10’s first Funko title, the game will also involve third-party studio partners, which Funko has not announced yet. However, the game will be rated “T” for Teen and will be an action platformer.
The companies announced this new endeavor with a video featuring Funko mascot, Freddy, wearing a 10:10 Games shirt. At this time, it is unclear if the video games will feature original intellectual property from Funko, Pop! versions of popular, licensed characters (like the LEGO video games), or a combination of both.
Fans can expect to hear more updates about the Funko video games next year.
