Hasbro has blessed us with high-end figures in the Star Wars Black Series and now it’s time for a new franchise to get a colorful collection.
The Transformers R.E.D. Series — Robot Enhanced Design — is starting with Optimus Prime and Megatron and will be available for preorder on June 26 from Walmart. The collectibles won’t be able to shift into their car forms but they will feature plenty of detail.
Megatron comes equipped to take over the world with a fusion cannon, a hand holding an Energon cube, and three more changeable hands. Optimus Prime is always ready for a battle with its Ion Blaster, Energon Axe, and four hands to switch out. For an added feature, fans can open the doors on Prime’s chest to reveal its Matrix of Leadership — the handy little button that shows who’s boss.
Fans can start building their Transformers collections or add to their existing garage of figures. These collectibles are inspired by the animated series from the ’80s and bring aaaalll the nostalgia. Preorder them at Walmart for $19.99 each on June 26 at 1 p.m. EST. They are expected to ship to your home in September, possibly by truck, possibly by alien robot.
In other — more cryptic — Transformers news, the brand’s official account dropped an Instagram post revealing that a Back to the Future collab is on the way later this year.
Wait a minute, Doc, does that mean Megatron is going to transform into the Delorean? The Instagram image merely states, “More than meets the eye,” (the Transformers slogan) and Transformers Official tagged Hasbro in the post, so collectibles merging the ‘80s icons are apparently on the way. We’ll just have to hope they drive 88 miles per hour to get here faster.
