Groot is finally getting his moment.
Disney+ announced that I Am Groot, a collection of five original shorts, will be debuting this summer, on August 10. The five shorts star Baby Groot — everyone’s favorite tiny tree — and will feature several new characters.
The series will explore Baby Groot as he spends his days growing up. As we saw in the first Guardians of the Galaxy film, Groot dies and leaves behind Baby Groot, a tinier version of the tree-like humanoid. A member of the Guardians of the Galaxy, Baby Groot is finding his place among the stars — and getting into some trouble. Vin Diesel, who voices Groot in the Guardians of the Galaxy franchise, will reprise his role and Kirsten Lepore will write and direct. All five episodes will be available to stream upon launch.
Alongside the announcement, Disney+ revealed the first poster for I Am Groot. It features the titular character embracing the summer vibes as he sits with his back to Peter Quill’s cassette player, legs crossed and next to a drink.
I Am Groot joins a busy slate of Marvel TV shows coming to Disney+ this summer — Ms. Marvel premieres on June 8 while She-Hulk hits the streaming platform on August 17.
