Hey fans of The Simpsons and Futurama: Netflix’s latest series is bound to be your newest binge.
Matt Groening, creator of the aforementioned hits, is taking his talents to Netflix with Disenchantment, an animated comedy series set in a fantasy land known as Dreamland.
Sporting some familiar voices and a similar animation style as Futurama, the new series follows Princess Bean (voiced by Broad City star Abbi Jacobson), an alcoholic who gets herself into an array of misadventures with her tiny companion Elfo.
Judging by the trailer, Disenchantment looks to be a crack-up, chock full of the humor that made The Simpsons and Futurama so popular.
“It used to be like the Disney princess, but also, I think a lot of writers make the mistake too of going the other way–it’s like, ‘She’s totally kick-ass and she’s perfect,’ executive producer Josh Weinstein mentioned at a panel at International Comic-Con: San Diego. “We wanted to bust that trope and actually make, what if the princess were just like, a realistic 19-year-old young woman?”
