Building on the success of The Purge horror film franchise, writer James DeMonaco’s is bringing the 12-hour period that is Purge Night to TV for a limited series on USA Network.

The 10-episode limited series follows several seemingly unrelated characters in a small city during the fateful holiday, whose lives suddenly overlap when a mysterious savior comes to their rescue, forcing each character to reckon with his or her own past.

Over the weekend at International Comic-Con: San Diego, USA Network released the first trailer for the new series, which seems to be an adaptation of the film premise we already know, with a script penned by DeMonaco.

The trailer sets up the premise of the new series where once a year, on Purge night, an altered America ruled by a totalitarian political party, has legalized all crime, including murder. The drama series unfolds as several characters learn how far they are willing to go to survive the night.

The Purge debuts September 4 on USA at 10/9c, with the series premiere and finale simulcast on Syfy.
