Nintendo announced a flurry of upcoming video games during its Nintendo Direct livestream on the first day of the Electronic Entertainment Expo (E3), getting fans excited about a mix of both old and new characters.
Get ready to see your favorite stories — including The Legend of Zelda, The Witcher, and Luigi’s Mansion — continued, and be on the lookout for the new stories debuting by next year.
Here are nine of the many games announced from day one of E3.
Gotta Catch ‘Em All
Nintendo announced that the highly anticipated Pokémon Sword and Pokémon Shield are available for preorder now for Nintendo Switch. They will have two new features, along with the Nessa water-type Gym Leader and Poké Ball Plus compatibility. Trainers will encounter powerful Pokémon in the Wild Area and will have the capability to join forces with four other players to fight a wild Dynamax Pokémon through Max Raid Battles in the Wild Area. The Legend of Zelda
Nintendo has started developing the sequel to The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild and will release a re-imagined The Legend of Zelda: Link’s Awakening on Sept. 20.
Luigi Time!
Luigi will reprise his starring role in the Luigi’s Mansion series with the third installment as he tries to escape a haunted hotel. Luigi’s Mansion 3 is currently available for preorder for Nintendo Switch.
Avengers, Assemble!
Fans of Marvel can assemble their own superheroes with the Marvel Ultimate Alliance 3: The Black Order, dropping for Nintendo Switch on July 19. The video game is currently available for preorder.
Lesser, Greater, Middling
Return to the dark fantasy world of the Witcher when a new edition of the third installment launches on Nintendo Switch. The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt — Complete Edition will come with tons of content, including the original game and two story expansions: Hearts of Stone and Blood and Wine.
Who’s Ready for Tokyo?!
Mario and Sonic the Hedgehog are fighting for the gold at the Olympics again with Mario & Sonic at the Olympic Games Tokyo 2020. The game launches on Nintendo Switch in November.
It’s (Not) Over
Nintendo will drop two new Resident Evil titles back to back this fall. In Resident Evil 5, Chris Redfield and his partner, Sheva Alomar, team up to stop a viral outbreak in Africa that is transforming villagers into aggressive creatures. Resident Evil 6 will follow shortly after, as Leon S. Kennedy and Chris Redfield return with a new team to eradicate the globe of the highly virulent C-virus.
Peace Be With You
The peaceful Animal Crossing series will make a big comeback on the Nintendo Switch on March 20, 2020, with Animal Crossing: New Horizons.
The Wait Is Over
The long-awaited new title Astral Chain, from Platinum Games, will drop on Aug. 30. The game is currently available for preorder.
