From the Game and Watch Collection to the Gameboy, the DS, and the original Switch, Nintendo has a long legacy of handheld gaming. Now, that lineage continues with the addition of Nintendo Switch Lite — a new device designed specifically to play Nintendo Switch games in handheld mode.
Launching on Sept. 20, the smaller, lighter system will be available in three different colors: yellow, gray, and turquoise. Then, beginning on Nov. 8, a special Pokémon edition will hit the streets, with the Nintendo Switch Lite Zacian and Zamazenta Edition set to feature cyan and magenta buttons paired with illustrations of the two new Legendary Pokémon from the upcoming Pokémon Sword and Pokémon Shield games for Nintendo Switch.
Nintendo Switch Lite is a dedicated handheld gaming device. Unlike the full-size Switch, it does not include a kickstand, nor does it support video output to a TV; there’s no dock or HDMI cable included. The new system will be compatible with all Switch games that support handheld mode, with Joy-Con controllers from the full-size Switch available to be connected wirelessly. The Nintendo Switch Lite will be priced at $199.99, with the Pokémon edition available for a limited time, while supplies last.
“November is shaping up to be a big month for Pokémon fans, with the arrival of this special hardware followed by the launch of the Pokémon Sword and Pokémon Shield games one week later,” says Nintendo of America President Doug Bowser. “The Nintendo Switch Lite Zacian and Zamazenta Edition will be a great gift for Pokémon fans who want to play the latest games on the go.”
