Despite COVID-19’s constant stream of event cancellations and delays, the Xbox Series X is still set for a holiday release later this year.
Microsoft has yet to make any indication that release of the next-generation video game console will be pushed into next year, despite the console likely being made of parts and materials from across the global supply chain (although those details have yet to be made public).
Instead, the company unveiled detailed specs on the upcoming Xbox Series X in a lengthy blog post last week, likely attempting to spur interest and keep hope alive for the company’s fourth iteration of the Xbox.

While mentioning twice that console will be available this holiday season, the post detailed some very cool features to expect for whenever the console actually does make it to your game room setup. Highlights include:
- An advanced graphics processing unit (GPU) will run games in 4K at 60 frames per second (FPS), and up to 120 FPS for the most demanding games;
- An 8-core processor at 3.8 GHz from longtime Xbox collaborator and chipmaker AMD;
- 1 terabyte of internal storage expandable up to one additional TB with an expansion card;
- A 4K ultra-high-definition (UHD) Blu-ray drive;
- Support for DirectX Raytracing, simulating light and sound properties more accurately;Â
- Largely decreased loading times;
- Backward compatibility for all titles from the original Xbox to the Xbox Series X; and
- A new, slightly smaller controller with a D-pad and a share button in the middle for quickly capturing screenshots and video clips.
These technical achievements are definitely a sight to see. Let’s just hope we all get the chance to see it in person later this year.
