Pixar’s new film will bring fans on an Italian getaway stuffed full of gelato, pasta, scooter rides, and sea monsters.
Luca takes place on the Italian Riviera, where a young boy goes on adventures with his best friend, who happens to be hiding a huge secret: He’s actually a sea monster from another world just below the crystal-clear water’s surface. We don’t know yet where the plot will go, but since it is Pixar, we can pretty much guarantee that grown adults will be crying within the first 10 minutes.
At its core, the film is about childhood friendships and how they impact us (what did I say about crying?), says the Academy-Award nominated director Enrico Casarosa in a press release. He promises the story will bring a once-in-a-lifetime adventure for Luca and ultimately change his life forever.
Fans can catch Luca in theaters next year on June 18.
