New details surrounding the plot of the upcoming live-action Pokémon: Detective Pikachu movie leaked online.
Legendary and The Pokémon Company are working on a live-action film adaptation based on the Pokémon video game of the same name. The movie will feature Ryan Reynolds as a Pikachu who can speak to his trainer.
The website Super Bro Movies claims to have revealed exclusive plot details for the film:
“The story begins when ace private eye Harry Goodman goes mysteriously missing, prompting his 21-year-old son Tim to find out what happened,” the synopsis reads. “Aiding in the investigation is Harry’s former Pokémon partner, Detective Pikachu: a hilariously wise-cracking, adorable super-sleuth who is a puzzlement even to himself.”
The synopsis continues, “Finding that they are uniquely equipped to communicate with one another, Tim and Pikachu become reluctant partners on a thrilling adventure to unravel the tangled mystery. Chasing clues together through the neon-lit streets of Ryme City—a sprawling, modern metropolis where humans and Pokémon live in partnership in a hyper-realistic live-action world—they encounter a diverse cast of Pokémon characters and uncover a shocking plot that could destroy this peaceful co-existence and threaten the whole Pokémon universe.”
The film stars Justice Smith as Tim, Kathryn Newton as junior reporter Lucy, and Ken Watanabe as Lt. Yoshida. Karan Sony, Bill Nighy, Suki Waterhouse, Chris Geere, Rita Ora, and Omar Chaparro will also appear in the new movie.
Pokémon: Detective Pikachu is directed by Rob Letterman and written by Guardians of the Galaxy co-writer Nicole Perlman.
