The first Pokémon strategic battle game is almost here!
Today, The Pokémon Co. revealed additional details about Pokémon Unite, a game that it first previewed almost exactly a year ago. The game will launch on Nintendo Switch systems first, next month, followed by a launch on mobile devices in September.
Unite will be a free-to-start game with additional in-game purchases available. The game will also offer cross-platform play between Nintendo Switch and mobile gamers, allowing players on different platforms to battle together and for one player to sync their progress between devices.
There is also a new trailer on the Pokémon Unite YouTube channel, which shows the game’s opening sequence and new gameplay footage.
Pokémon Unite takes place on Aeos Island, where players will find the Unite Battle Committee (UBC), an organization that runs battle tournaments. In these tournaments, players form teams of five and compete against each other to score the most points before time runs out. Players will also discover (and be able to use) a new form of energy called Aeos energy.
To earn points for their team, players must gather Aeos energy by defeating wild and opposing Pokémon, then deposit the energy into one of the opposing team’s goal zones. These battles will take place in a variety of stadiums, each with different rules.
