For better or for worse, Mortal Kombat is known for its violent fighting, and now fans can get up close and personal with the hardcore combat in a new, limited series on Nerdist. A collaboration between the Nerdist series Because Science and Warner Bros. Interactive Entertainment, The Science of Mortal Kombat will analyze specific moves and characters from the upcoming Mortal Kombat 11 video game. Because Science host Kyle Hill will host the new show with the help of YouTuber and Mythbuster Allen Pan and special guests including reigning UFC Heavyweight Champion Daniel Cormier and former WWE Champion CM Punk.
Super-slow-motion cameras will capture enhanced visuals so the show can break down Mortal Kombat 11’s iconic fight moves, such as the pressure and strength needed to break bones, the scientific analysis of a character’s superhuman abilities, and more. The six-episode series of high-intensity fight re-enactments and behind-the-scenes footage will begin airing weekly on nerdist.com and Because Science’s YouTube channel on Feb. 18. It will be available on Nerdist and Because Science channels any time after each Monday airing.
Mortal Kombat 11Â is the latest installment in the video game franchise, developed by NetherRealm Studios, and is scheduled for release beginning April 23 for PlayStation 4, PlayStation4 Pro, the Xbox One family of devices (including the Xbox One X), Nintendo Switch, and PC.
