SDCC 2023: The Trailers, Teasers, and Clips You Can’t Miss!

Let’s just get this out of the way: It’s a strange year for Comic-Con International: San Diego (SDCC).

You could say that there are some striking differences being felt throughout the show as the major players in Hollywood are at war with the below-the-line talent. The Writers Guild of America (WGA) and the Screen Actors Guild – American Federation of Television and Radio Artists (SAG-AFTRA) are on strike as they seek fair compensation from the Alliance of Motion Picture and Television Producers (AMPTP) and its studio and streaming members.

That said, panels have been canceled, studios and talent have bailed, and the changes are being felt on all sides, including the talent and fans still attending SDCC.

Still, despite the cancellations, several studios and streamers have activations in and around SDCC and they’re rolling out new trailers, teasers, and clips. Beyond movies and TV, there are also some video game trailers and other interesting things dropping throughout the weekend and The Pop Insider is keeping tabs on all of them, rounding up the best of the best in this curated collection right here for your enjoyment!

Marvel Studios pulled out of SDCC for the first time in years, but that didn’t stop the crew from dropping a big trailer.

Carol Danvers aka Captain Marvel has reclaimed her identity from the tyrannical Kree and taken revenge on the Supreme Intelligence. But unintended consequences see Carol shouldering the burden of a destabilized universe. When her duties send her to an anomalous wormhole linked to a Kree revolutionary, her powers become entangled with that of Jersey City super-fan, Kamala Khan aka Ms. Marvel, and Carol’s estranged niece, now S.A.B.E.R. astronaut Captain Monica Rambeau. Together, this unlikely trio must team up and learn to work in concert to save the universe as The Marvels.

Marvel Studios’ The Marvels stars Brie Larson, Teyonah Parris, Iman Vellani, Zawe Ashton, Gary Lewis, Park Seo-joon, Zenobia Shroff, Mohan Kapur, Saagar Shaikh, and Samuel L. Jackson.

The cast had to skip SDCC, but Paramount dropped a new teaser piggy-backing on the Barbie hype AND the first full clip from the much-anticipated TMNT reboot.

In Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Mutant Mayhem, after years of being sheltered from the human world, the Turtle brothers set out to win the hearts of New Yorkers and be accepted as normal teenagers through heroic acts. Their new friend April O’Neil helps them take on a mysterious crime syndicate, but they soon get in over their heads when an army of mutants is unleashed upon them.

Starring Nicolas Cantu (Leonardo), Sharon Brown Jr. (Mikey), Micah Abbey (Donnie), Brady Noon (Raph), Jackie Chan (Splinter), Ayo Edebiri (April), Ice Cube (Superfly), Seth Rogen (Bebop), John Cena (Rocksteady), Paul Rudd (Mondo Gecko), Rose Byrne (Leatherhead), Post Malone (Ray Fillet), Hannibal Buress (Genghis Frog), Natasia Demetriou (Wing Nut), Maya Rudolph (Cynthia Utrom), and Giancarlo Esposito (Baxter Stockman).

Boimler (Jack Quaid), Mariner (Tawny Newsome), Rutherford (Eugene Cordero), Tendi (Noël Wells), and the rest of the U.S.S. Cerritos crew prove they are more than just lower-deckers in the Star Trek: Lower Decks season 4 trailer.

Additionally, Paramount brought an exclusive clip from the final season of Star Trek: Discovery to SDCC.

The Pokémon Co. rolled into SDCC for its first-ever panel presentation and unveiled a pair of trailers.

First up is the English-dubbed trailer for Pokémon Horizons: The Series, for which they also showed fans an English-dubbed clip of the initial 11 minutes of the first episode and special behind-the-scenes insights on the production of the new series.

Additionally, The Pokémon Co. revealed that the fourth and final part of Pokémon Ultimate Journeys: The Series will premiere in the U.S. exclusively on Netflix on Sept. 8, 2023. The final batch of episodes provides a glimpse at what the future may hold for Ash Ketchum and his Pikachu in this last chapter of their 25-season journey.

AMC rocked SDCC with a batch of trailers and clips from The Walking Dead franchise. The shortest teaser comes from next year’s The Walking Dead: The Ones Who Live, the much-anticipated limited series marking the return of Andrew Lincoln and Danai Gurira as Rick and Michonne.

The Walking Dead: Daryl Dixon debuts Sept. 10 and takes the zombie action to France where Daryl is called upon “to lead the revival of humanity.”

The Walking Dead: Dead City is not a limited series! In a big surprise, AMC revealed that there is unfinished business in the Big Apple, and Negan and Maggie will be back for a second season.

Speaking of Dead City, the season finale is fast approaching and in it, Maggie throws down her love for “The Magic of Macy’s.”

The international hit anime goes live-action in this new adaptation that debuts on Netflix on August 31!

Based on the comic book by Robert Kirkman, Cory Walker, and Ryan Ottley, the story revolves around 18-year-old Mark Grayson, who’s just like every other guy his age — except his father is (or was) the most powerful superhero on the planet. Still reeling from Nolan’s betrayal in Season 1, Mark struggles to rebuild his life as he faces a host of new threats, all while battling his greatest fear – that he might become his father without even knowing it.

Starring Steven Yeun, with Sandra Oh, Zazie Beetz, Grey DeLisle, Chris Diamantopoulos, Walton Goggins, Gillian Jacobs, Jason Mantzoukas, Ross Marquand, Khary Payton, Zachary Quinto, Andrew Rannells, Kevin Michael Richardson, Seth Rogen, and J.K. Simmons.

Warner Bros. is releasing a mature take on Mortal Kombat in this 1980s-themed origin story of Johnny Cage.

In 1980s Hollywood, action star Johnny Cage is looking to become an A-list actor. But when his costar, Jennifer, goes missing from the set, Johnny finds himself thrust into a world filled with shadows, danger, and deceit. As he embarks on a bloody journey, Johnny quickly discovers the City of Angels has more than a few devils in its midst. He faces off against a sinister secret society plotting a nefarious scheme, but the brutal fight against the bloodthirsty warriors of the Netherrealm is just beginning. Can Johnny, alongside other Mortal Kombat legends, save humanity…and, more importantly, his career?

The animated film arrives for purchase on Oct. 17, 2023.

Ghosts of Ruin is an anime series that takes place in a dystopian future where video games sync directly with the minds of people and are indistinguishable from reality. Featuring lead Tony Revolori (The Grand Budapest Hotel), K-Pop star AleXa, Josh Keaton (Spectacular Spider-man), Karen Strassman (Sonic the Hedgehog series), and John Bentley (Alpha and Omega), the sci-fi animated series follows a group of gamers as they navigate a mind-bending world. Coming soon from Gala Films.

This fall, Gala Film is set to release this 8-episode science fiction thriller that takes place in an alternative dystopian version of Los Angeles, dubbed “The Grid Zone.” RZR is the brainchild of David Bianchi, who created the show and stars in it alongside Mena Suvari, Richard Cabral, and Emilio Rivera. Danny Trejo guest stars.

It’s happening: Rick and Morty are going full-on anime, and Adult Swim dropped a first look at SDCC. Stay tuned for more details!

They didn’t provide any real details to go along with it, but the fourth season of DC’s Harley Quinn is dropping July 27 on (not-HBO) Max.

Based on characters from the beloved Adventure Time franchise, this brand-new 10-episode series set in the land of Ooo follows the alternate universe versions of Finn & Jake on a multiverse-hopping journey toward self-discovery. When Fionna and her sidekick Cake find themselves in the crosshairs of a powerful new foe, they have no choice but to seek the help of former Ice King Simon Petrikov. Adventure Time: Fionna & Cake premieres August 31 on Max.

Cartoon Network and Max rolled into SDCC and unveiled the theme song for Tiny Toons Looniversity.

The new theme song from composer Matthew Janszen strikes all the right nostalgia chords by showcasing Bruce Broughton’s iconic tune from the Emmy Award-winning Tiny Toon Adventures while remixing the original arrangement and lyrics to fit the newest college iteration of these beloved characters. The series will debut this fall.

It’s not a trailer, but Lionsgate did a power-washing unveiling of its poster for the fourth film in the Expendables franchise. The film hits theaters on Sept. 22 and stars Jason Statham, Curtis “50 Cent” Jackson, Megan Fox, Dolph Lundgren, Tony Jaa, Iko Uwais, Randy Couture, Jacob Scipio, and Levy Tran, with Andy Garcia, and Sylvester Stallone.
