red son superman dc

During the premiere of Batman: Hush at Comic-Con International: San Diego (SDCC), DC reportedly revealed its lineup of two original Superman films coming next year.

Clark Kent’s alter ego will first star in the adaptation of Superman: Red Son in the new year, followed up by Superman: Man of Tomorrow. The animated Red Son will be based on the comic story of the same name written by Mark Millar, Dave Johnson, and Killian Plunkett. Then, Man of Tomorrow will be an original story featuring a young Kent during his early tenure as the hero.

The three-issue Red Son adaptation is an Elseworlds tale that took place if Kal-El crash-landed in Soviet Russia during the Cold War rather than the heart of America. While The CW’s Supergirl loosely adapted this storyline this year with Supergirl’s clone Red Daughter and Lex Luthor training for battle in Kaznia, DC’s announcement seems to indicate this film will be a more traditional adaptation of the story.

The two Superman flicks will join a sequel to DC’s 2017 animated Justice League Dark with Justice League Dark: Apokolips War to round out the year’s lineup.

No further details about the films have been revealed.
