Following yesterday’s social media teasers and the peak-Ryan-Reynolds “Becoming Pikachu” featurette (featuring Blake Lively), the second Pokémon Detective Pikachu trailer has arrived.
Clocking in at two minutes and 23 seconds, the trailer starts by giving us a bit more info on how Pikachu (Ryan Reynolds) makes his way to Tim Goodman (Justice Smith). Apparently, he is suffering from a heavy case of amnesia — the only clue to his past and identity is Tim’s father, Harry’s, name and address inside his detective hat.
The trailer shows more of the Pokémon-Trainer duo learning to work as a team as they search for Harry, who Pikachu is certain still lives. There’s plenty of new Pokémon popping up throughout, from Eevee and Mewtwo to Flareon and Snorlax.
The internet is already collectively freaking out over one specific line, when Pikachu (*gasp*) curses. He is in a battle arena, up against Charizard, and is unable to summon his lightning. “Get me the hell out of here!” he exclaims, before curling up in a ball and whimpering a very cute “Pika Pika.”
The trailer is chocked full of laughs, nostalgia, and catchy pop music. The movie officially hits theaters on May 10. Check out the full trailer here.
