Director Destin Daniel Cretton has been tapped to direct Marvel Studio’s upcoming film adaptation of Shang-Chi. This superhero film marks the first Marvel movie with an Asian protagonist as the hero.

Cretton is currently directing the upcoming film Just Mercy, starring MCU favorites Brie Larson (Captain Marvel) and Michael B. Jordan (Black Panther). Joining Cretton in bringing this hero to life is screenwriter Dave Callaham (The Expendables, Doom, Wonder Woman 1984), who will pen the Shang-Chi character.

The original Shang-Chi Marvel Comics feature the Chinese-American superhero Shang, a master of unarmed and weaponry-based wushu styles. Shang-Chi first appeared in Special Marvel Edition No. 15 in 1973.
