Shazam! movie

New Line Cinema’s Shazam! swooped out of its second weekend in theaters with $25.1 million. Meanwhile, Hellboy’s audience turnout wasn’t as hot during its premiere weekend.

The DC superhero flick earned a total of $94.9 million in its first 10 days, and it’s expected to score more than $100 million before Good Friday (April 19).

Meanwhile, Millennium/Lionsgate’s antihero movie Hellboy came up short during its opening weekend, earning $12 million. The third film adaptation of the comic book series saw its lowest-earning opening of the franchise. Its predecessor, Universal’s Hellboy 2, earned $34.5 million in its debut weekend.

To top it off, CinemaScore gave Hellboy a ‘C’ rating. Shazam!, on the other hand, scored four stars from ComScore.

Looking ahead, while Disney and Marvel were hoping to follow up box office hits Avengers: Endgame, Captain Marvel, and Shazam! with an equally successful superhero movie, the upcoming X-Men: Dark Phoenix is only expected to bring in between $40 and 55 million during its opening weekend, according to Box Office Pro.

Dark Phoenix may prove the industry predictions wrong, but the film is on track to have the worst premiere weekend of all the X-Men movies. Box Office Pro also predicts a poor run for the X-Men sequel in theaters, predicting only $113 million in the U.S. box office.

X-Men: Dark Phoenix, which stars James McAvoy, Michael Fassbender, Jennifer Lawrence, Sophie Turner, Nicholas Hoult, and Jessica Chastain, will premiere in theaters on June 7.
