The first teaser trailer for Pixar‘s upcoming original Soul dropped this morning, and it wastes no time getting deep. (But it’s Pixar. Are we surprised?).
The 1-minute and 30-second clip starts with protagonist Joe (voiced by Jamie Foxx) asking some big questions and dropping some serious truths about the meaning of life.
“What would you want to be known for on earth? We only have a short time on this planet. You wanna become the person you were born to be? Don’t waste your time on all the junk of life. Spend your precious hours doing the things that will bring out the real you.”
Then, things take a bit of a turn when Joe — a middle school band teacher with a passion for jazz music — accidentally falls into a manhole and wakes up as a soul in some kind of afterlife.
That’s where he meets 22, another soul (voiced by Tina Fey) who doesn’t exactly share Joe’s philosophy on finding your passion. We can only assume that hijinks and deep emotional revelations ensue.
