SpongeBob SquarePants fans will get a view into the famous sea sponge’s life as a child in the new upcoming spin-off Kamp Koral.
Nickelodeon greenlit the 13-episode CG-animated series focusing on SpongeBob as a 10-year-old sea creature. Marc Ceccarelli and Vincent Waller (SpongeBob SquarePants) will be the co-executive producers for the new cartoon.
Production on the series is slated to begin this month at Nickelodeon in Burbank, California.
SpongeBob and his friends are staying at a wacky sleepaway camp in the forest called Kamp Koral throughout the summer. There they spend their time building underwater campfires, catching wild jellyfish, and swimming in Lake Yuckymuck — just doing everything SpongeBob does best. Someone please start a petition for the cast to sing “Campfire Song Song” and/or “Ripped Pants!”
“SpongeBob has an incredible universe to expand upon, and the green light for Kamp Koral is a testament to the strength and longevity of these characters known and loved by generations of fans around the world,” Ramsey Naito, EVP of animation production and development for Nickelodeon, said in a statement.
