Star Trek: Discovery is flying into its second season with some major turbulence.

The OG showrunners, Gretchen Berg and Aaron Harberts, are stepping down, and Alex Kurtzman, co-creator and executive producer, will step in to fill the shoes of two people along with his previous responsibilities. That’s a lot to take on for a show only going into its sophomore season. This is the second showrunner shakeup the show has seen since season one—Bryan Fuller, the first showrunner, left before Discovery even aired because he reportedly disagreed with almost every aspect of production.

Unlike most announcements of “creative differences,” the Hollywood Reporter says the change was due to “leadership and operational issues.” Apparently, Harberts and Berg took to harassing the writing staff and even going as far as swearing at them. Yikes. When Harberts got wind of HR complaints, he threatened the staff to keep production matters internal.

Akiva Goldsman, the show’s former executive producer, also stepped down prior to season two, so it’s anyone’s guess as to how Discovery will be affected. Hopefully, the shakeup will increase the comfort levels of those involved in the production team and lead to an even better second season.
