Star Wars Celebration 2020

The biggest news for Star Wars fans this week was that tickets for the next Star Wars Celebration are now on sale!

Indeed, the Force will be strong in Anaheim, California, when Star Wars Celebration returns to the Anaheim Convention Center for the first time since 2015. Tickets for the ultimate Star Wars fan event — to be held next year from Aug. 27-30 — are on sale now, and the initial fan reaction is massive: Jedi Master VIP Packages sold out in less than 40 minutes!

This year’s Star Wars Celebration was an incredible experience in Chicago, and next year’s event should top it as Lucasfilm looks ahead to new movies, new television series, new toys and collectibles, new games, and many new surprises yet to be revealed. This year’s grand kickoff panel featured the debut of the first teaser for Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker.

Held in select cities since 1999, Star Wars Celebration features four days of major announcements, immersive exhibits, an interactive show floor, screenings, exclusive merchandise, celebrity guests, panels, autograph sessions, fan-inspired activities, costumes, and more. Additionally, multiple stages keep the excitement flowing throughout, and The Star Wars Show‘s live broadcasts connect with fans at the convention and at home. Cosplaying is strongly encouraged, but be careful to avoid any “Imperial entanglements.”

  • A twist on Willrow Hood and his ice maker? “The Running of the Willrow Hoods” is a Star Wars Celebration tradition in which cosplayers don their best orange jumpuits and run through the convention center carrying vintage ice cream makers. The reason? Willrow Hood was seen doing just that in a throwaway scene on Cloud City during The Empire Strikes Back. But why was this ice cream maker so important that ‘Ol Willrow would save it during an evacuation? Turns out, it’s not an ice cream maker: it’s a safe. The news comes from io9, noting that The Mandalorian showrunner Jon Favreau shared a picture of the device on Instagram a while back, and that the series preview shown at Star Wars Celebration featured a glimpse at it as well. Willrow Hood has become a Star Wars legend over the years, getting his own action figure and significantly more screen time than Constable Zuvio.

  • Singing seals? Researchers at the University of St. Andrews in Scotland discovered that seals can mimic human speech and hum. In fact, the animals have taken a particular liking to John Williams’ iconic Star Wars theme.

  • When making the press rounds to promote the new Child’s Play movie, Mark Hamill told the Associated Press that after more than 40 years as Luke Skywalker, Jedi actors tend to get a “curtain call as a Force ghost.”
