Disneyland got Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge first, but the Walt Disney World Resort will be the first to get Star Wars: Rise of the Resistance.
Last month, the long-awaited Galaxy’s Edge opened at the California park with just one of the two main attractions ready for guests: Millennium Falcon: Smuggler’s Run. On Aug. 29, the same will be true in Florida when Disney World opens the gates to its Galaxy’s Edge, with Rise of the Resistance set to open on Dec. 5 — Walt Disney’s birthday!
Said to be one of the most complex and immersive theme park rides ever developed, Star Wars: Rise of the Resistance “will blur the lines between fantasy and reality and will put guests in the middle of a climactic battle between the First Order and the Resistance. Guests will be recruited to join Rey and General Organa at a secret base. Along the way, they will be captured by a First Order Star Destroyer. With the help of some heroes of the Resistance, they break out and must escape the Star Destroyer, protect the secret base, and stay one step ahead of Kylo Ren.”
Following the completion of work at Walt Disney World, the Imagineering team will head back to California to finish the attraction at Disneyland Resort for a Jan. 17 opening.
Expect a ton of Star Wars news in the months ahead as we approach the November release of The Mandalorian on Disney+ and the December theatrical release of Lucasfilm’s Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker. Yesterday saw the reveal of the Sith Trooper, and more announcements are expected at Comic-Con International: San Diego (SDCC) and next month’s D23 Expo in Anaheim, California.
