If you weren’t already excited enough for The Last of Us Part II coming out in May, HBO and Sony PlayStation are here to make your day.
According to an exclusive post from The Hollywood Reporter (THR), a series based on the popular survival/horror video game franchise is heading to HBO.
Craig Mazin, who created the HBO limited series Chernobyl, is set to adapt The Last of Us alongside Neil Druckmann, the game’s writer and creative director. Druckmann and Mazin will reportedly work together to write and executive produce the series.
The project is a co-production with Sony Pictures Television and will be the first series from PlayStation Productions. Other executive producers include Carolyn Strauss and Evan Wells, the president of Naughty Dog (the game development studio behind The Last of Us).
For those who may be unfamiliar, The Last of Us debuted in 2013 to significant praise. The game follows the story of a smuggler named Joel and a 14-year-old girl named Ellie as they navigate a post-apocalyptic world.
According to THR, the series will follow the events of the original game, with the potential for more content based on the upcoming sequel, The Last of Us Part II.
