The Lion King rules in the global box office.
The photo-realistic reboot earned $544 million worldwide during its first 10 days in theaters.
The Lion King’s reign continued through its opening weekend when the animated adaptation of the classic Disney film earned $275.2 million overseas. This followed the movie’s roaring success on its preview night, earning $23 million in the U.S.
It’s already the No. 7 film of the year across the globe, sharing the top seven rankings with five additional Disney titles.
Disney took the lead in the box office this weekend overall, with Toy Story 4, earning $800 million worldwide, while Aladdin has earned $989 million so far. Avengers: Endgame surpassed Avatar in the box office, earning $2,790.3 million worldwide — even though it basically cheated the system with that theatrical rerelease. Endgame is now the highest-grossing movie of all time.
