If you thought Space Jam showing up on Netflix was the best basketball + Looney Tunes news you’d get this spring, think again!
Yesterday, LeBron James — who is set to succeed Michael Jordan as the star of the upcoming Space Jam sequel — posted the below tweet, wearing a hat that reads “Space Jam: A New Legacy,” with the message “2021.”

This was the first official announcement regarding the title or release date for the sequel, which Black Panther director Ryan Coogler is set to direct.
The verified @spacejammovie Twitter account also updated its profile to feature the new movie title and logo, but hasn’t shared any additional information at this point.
So far, fan reactions to LeBron’s tweet are mixed, with some people eager for the next installment of the Looney Tunes NBA universe (the LTNBAU, if you will) and others claiming singular loyalty to the original Space Jam.
Will LeBron’s New Legacy live up to the hype? It sounds like all of us Monstars have to wait until next year to see. At the very least, we’re holding out hope for a Bill Murray role-reprisal.
