More Marvel is coming to Disney+ … in just over half a year from now.
If The Mandalorian was the Disney+ show to watch last year, this year all eyes are on the upcoming Marvel Studios series The Falcon and the Winter Soldier and WandaVision. But we hope the Big Game spot didn’t get you too excited: According to The Walt Disney Company’s first-quarter earnings webcast, those titles won’t premiere until August (The Falcon) and December (WandaVision).
To bridge the four-month gap between the two series, more Mando and Baby Yoda will fill our hearts and screens in season two of The Mandalorian, premiering in October.
The announcements accompany the news that Disney’s colossal streaming service has gained nearly 29 million subscribers since launching in October. That’s a lot of pixie dust in the company’s pockets.
Disney CEO Bob Iger says it’s due in part to the company’s giant portfolio, which has grown in the last decade to include Marvel, Lucasfilm, National Geographic, and 20th Century Fox. Iger says the content focus in the future will be on “providing quality content from our core franchises and brands, not just quantity.”
I guess quality content takes time to deliver. Seven more months to wait, but who’s counting?
